Remembering

DP Challenge: Heritage

Here two photos of a tombstone (front and back) in Fort Pulaski, Georgia.  Part of our heritage as Americans.

Wars are part of our history.  Civil wars are perhaps the most difficult to understand, since it is a fight among county men.  Sometimes I hear folks trying to adjust history to make it more palatable.  In all its beauty and in all its ugliness, our heritage should be remembered as it happened.  Perhaps if we remember, we will not make the same mistakes.

Remembering our heritage is important.

Careful of the CannonBalls

Daily Post Photo Challenge: Danger

DSC_0116 (2)

Here is a shot of Fort Pulaski in Georgia.  This is the side of the fort that sustained the heaviest cannon fire from the Union Troops.  This damage was ultimately the reason that the fort surrendered during the Civil War.  For me not having experienced war, it is hard to imagine the “danger” that soldiers on both sides experience.  But seeing the pockmarks in a brick structure, makes it more real.

Anyone visiting the Savannah area, Fort Pulaski is truly a worthy side trip.  I hope you can come and see us.

Que Sera TybeeTabby

DSC_0093 (2)

My sweet Que DeCat died this morning after nineteen years of life.  I adopted her when she was almost two along with her paramour, Clyde.  Que was grumpy and skittish, but she was my beautiful baby girl kitty.  You all may recognize her as TybeeTabby.  So sleep well Que and enjoy romping with Clyde on the other side.

Photo Challenge: E & F for Cee

Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge: E & F

Tybee had its Irish Heritage Parade last Saturday.  Since everyone loves a parade and it is St. Patrick’s Day…Here are two photos that fit Cee’s Challenge.

“E” is for Escapee.  The Shriners support a great cause with some creative marchers.

“F” is for Feathers.  The Junkaroo Band is always a crowd pleaser.

Atop the Fence Post

DP Photo Challenge: Atop

A few days ago this little fellow (a Carolina Anole) was sitting atop the fence post just enjoying the sunshine.  Today he is probably hiding somewhere warm and dreaming about the hot days to come.  Note the weird end of his tail.  If these lizards are threatened, they will allow part of their tail to break off…..I wonder what happened to this poor guy?
