Big

Day 7 of Developing Your Eye 1 – Big

The powers that be are dredging the Savannah River so that even more gigantic boats can sail into the port and deliver more fine goods from around the world.

Here is a photo of a work ship moving up the river.  Just so you get a perspective of the size, take a look at the seagulls and kayak in the foreground and if you look on the right hand side of the boat you can just make out a guy sitting on the deck.  The only problem that I have with photographs like this is they really can’t give you the true feeling of how big and awe inspiring these ships are.

Photo Challenge: Scale

https://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_photo_challenge/scale/

The huge cargo ships that travel the Savannah River impressed me when I first saw them and continue to impress me today.  These ships are gigantic.  Each of the rectangles on the deck of the ship is a trailer from a semi-truck, giving you some sense of the size of the ship.  Seeing them up close and personal gives the best perspective.  The second shot of the tug in front of the cargo ship may provide an even better sense of scale.  You can see the tug pilot in the cabin.

Photo Challenge – Shadow

It was early afternoon on Monday.  Sunshine was bright and the sky was clear….a perfect day for casting shadows.

This gull was flying very low to the ground.  Pretty cool how the wings almost touch the sand.

For a little bird…this guy cast a pretty large shadow.

DSC_0264 (2)Around the oyster beds and shells, these two were looking for lunch.  I didn’t really notice at the time I was taking the picture, but the shadows do give depth to the photo.

DSC_0279 (2)When I looked at this flier, I noticed the stripe across his chest.  At first I thought it was just odd coloring, but then I realized that his wing was shading his body.

Hope you like my shadows.
