Catching a Wish

DP Photo Challenge: Wish

The last couple of months there has been a new fishing/shrimping boat on the river near my home.  The boat is bright aqua and looks so cheerful as it moves through the water.  I know that fishing is a hard job and the days are long.  So here “wishing” the crew of the Jessica Marie safe journeys and  bountiful catches.

Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge – Textures

http://ceenphotography.com/2015/01/29/cees-black-white-photo-challenge-textures/

Crabs and Oysters, oh my.  Here’s my two-fer on Textures.

First photo is a shot of the mud burrows of the fiddler crabs.  If you look closely on the right side of the picture you can see the crabs at work.

The second photo is a close up of an oyster bed along the river bank.

Photo Challenge – Shadow

It was early afternoon on Monday.  Sunshine was bright and the sky was clear….a perfect day for casting shadows.

DSC_0217

This gull was flying very low to the ground.  Pretty cool how the wings almost touch the sand.

For a little bird…this guy cast a pretty large shadow.

DSC_0264 (2)Around the oyster beds and shells, these two were looking for lunch.  I didn’t really notice at the time I was taking the picture, but the shadows do give depth to the photo.

DSC_0279 (2)When I looked at this flier, I noticed the stripe across his chest.  At first I thought it was just odd coloring, but then I realized that his wing was shading his body.

Hope you like my shadows.

Photo Challenge -Twinkle -Droplets and Dredge

DSC_0170

Two very different pictures for today’s theme, “Twinkle”.

The first is a shot of a cedar tree with dew glistening on its branches.  I was walking and taking bird pictures last week and this branch caught my eye….too bad the birdie wasn’t in the frame as well.

DSC_0327The second shot is of a dredge traveling up the river at night.  It was rather close to the shore and startled me when it came into my line of sight, since it was so unexpected.  I must admit, the twinkle was brighter in person than in the photo.

Beach Birds

Today is a beautiful day on Tybee. The breeze is cool, the sky is a vivid blue and the sun is shining for the first time in days. Best of all the herons, seagulls and miscellaneous other birds are about. I wandered with camera. Here are a couple of my favorites from this morning.

Doesn’t this heron seems to be saying, “You dare to approach the Queen!!!” ?

DSC_0246 (2)

Not the most elegant bird on the ground, but actually pretty impressive in flight.  Say hi to the turkey vulture.

Although I took this one the other morning.  This gull was so gracious about posing, he made the cut.
