Pulsating Pelican

DP Photo Challenge: Out-of-Focus

I’ve been trying to get better at taking night pictures.  Basically right now, I’m bad.  But that said, I have gotten some interesting out-of-focus results.  I share two with you below.

This one is a pelican in flight.  It was late dusk and he was flying as part of a pair.  I have cropped and used a filter on the photo and actually like the result, it was not what I intended, but that’s okay, too.

Here’s a shimper at night on the Savannah River.  It is the best of the bad.  I actually did use a tripod, but I need some training, to get the settings on my camera right.

Tuesday’s Excitement

DP Photo Challenge: Evanescent

How much difference a few hours make.  These two photos below were taken this past Tuesday afternoon.  It was an exciting day in Tabby’s backyard.

Yes, it was officially a tornado rolling over Fort Pulaski and down the Savannah River.  This picture was taken from the back porch….a little closer and I would have been cowering in the laundry room.  But no damage for us, the fort wasn’t so lucky.

At dusk there was a break in the action and the birds took advantage of the feeder.  I spotted a male painted bunting, one of my favorites.  This photo was taken in the back yard.

Evanescent events, both of them.

Remembering

DP Challenge: Heritage

Here two photos of a tombstone (front and back) in Fort Pulaski, Georgia.  Part of our heritage as Americans.

Wars are part of our history.  Civil wars are perhaps the most difficult to understand, since it is a fight among county men.  Sometimes I hear folks trying to adjust history to make it more palatable.  In all its beauty and in all its ugliness, our heritage should be remembered as it happened.  Perhaps if we remember, we will not make the same mistakes.

Remembering our heritage is important.

Que Sera TybeeTabby

DSC_0093 (2)

My sweet Que DeCat died this morning after nineteen years of life.  I adopted her when she was almost two along with her paramour, Clyde.  Que was grumpy and skittish, but she was my beautiful baby girl kitty.  You all may recognize her as TybeeTabby.  So sleep well Que and enjoy romping with Clyde on the other side.
